The following scorecard lists several key votes in the Alaska Legislature in 2024 and ranks state representatives and senators based on their fidelity to (U.S.) constitutional and limited-government principles.
House of Representatives
1. Juneteenth
SB22 Juneteenth (Passed 37 to 3 on 5/15/2024). Establishes Juneteenth Day as a legal holiday.
2. Disaster Relief Grants
HB345 Disaster Relief Grants (Passed 30 to 8 on 5/15/2024). Creates disaster relief grants for Alaska unit owners to cover common disaster-related expenses.
3. Forced Contraceptives Coverage
HB17 Forced Contraceptives Coverage (Passed 29 to 10 on 5/10/2024). Requires insurance in Alaska to cover contraceptives and related services without cost-sharing. It mandates 12-month prescriptions and ensures coverage for switching methods. The state's medical assistance program will also cover these services.
4. Carbon Storage
HB50 Carbon Storage (Passed 37 to 3 on 5/15/2024). Creates a regulatory framework for underground carbon storage under the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission.
5. Energy Sources of Motor Vehicles
HB375 Energy Sources of Motor Vehicles (Passed 23 to 17 on 5/1/2024). Prohibits state agencies and local governments in Alaska from restricting the use or sale of motor vehicles based on their energy sources, such as gasoline, diesel, electricity, or hydrogen.
6. Fairness in Women’s Sports
HB183 Fairness in Women’s Sports (Passed 22 to 18 on 5/12/2024). Requires that all school-sponsored athletic teams be designated as either male, female, or coeducational, with female teams restricted to participants identified as female at birth.
