AL Scorecard 2024

The following scorecard lists several key votes in the Alabama Legislature in 2024 and ranks state representatives and senators based on their fidelity to (U.S.) constitutional and limited-government principles.

House of Representatives

1. Prohibit Ranked-choice Voting

Good Vote: Yes

SB186 Prohibit Ranked-choice Voting (Passed 74 to 28 on 5/2/2024). Prohibits the use of ranked-choice voting (RCV) in Alabama for electing or nominating candidates to any local, state, or federal office.

2. Education Savings Accounts

Good Vote: No
HB129 Education Savings Accounts (Passed 69 to 34 on 2/27/2024). Creates a refundable tax credit for parents to cover educational expenses through Education Savings Accounts (ESAs).

3. DEI Ban

Good Vote: Yes

SB129 DEI Ban (Passed 75 to 28 on 3/7/2024). Prohibits public entities in Alabama from maintaining diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) offices or sponsoring DEI programs.

4. Disassociate With WHO

Good Vote: Yes

HJR113 Disassociate With WHO (Passed 64 to 28 on 4/11/2024). Urges an end to U.S. funding for the World Health Organization (WHO).

5. Carbon Storage

Good Vote: No

HB327 Carbon Storage (Passed 95 to 5 on 4/9/2024). Regulates carbon dioxide storage in Alabama, giving surface owners rights to underground "pore space" and authorizing state agencies to oversee and lease storage sites.

6. 2nd Amendment Attack

Good Vote: No
HB36 Second Amendment Attack (Passed 60 to 38 on 4/30/2024). Prohibits the possession of firearms that have parts intended to convert them into machine guns. Violations of this law will result in a Class C felony.
