The following scorecard lists several key votes in the Florida Legislature in 2019 and 2020 and ranks state representatives and senators based on their fidelity to (U.S.) constitutional and limited-government principles.
The selected votes may not be reflective of legislators’ overall records. Their cumulative scores will change as we add more votes. Please check regularly for updates.
Senate
1. Taxpayer Financed Ad Campaign
SB362 Taxpayer Financed Ad Campaign (Passed 38 to 0 on 3/9/20). Extends funding for the Visit Florida Marketing Corporation, an expensive advertising project funded at extensive taxpayer expense.
2. Expanding Use of E-Verify
SB664 Expanding Use of E-Verify (Passed 23 to 17 on 3/12/2020). Mandates employers use the E-Verify system to affirm the legal status of new hires.
3. Limiting Abortion Access for Minors
SB404 Limiting Abortion Access for Minors (Passed 23 to 17 on 2/6/2020). Prohibits physicians from performing abortions on minors without first obtaining the consent of a parent or legal guardian.
4. Ending Sanctuary Cities
SB168 Ending Sanctuary Cities (Passed 22 to 18 on 5/2/2019). Ends "sanctuary city" protections and directs Florida law enforcement to work with federal authorities in cases related to illegal migration.
5. Vaccine Database
HB213 Vaccine Database (Passed 38 to 0 on April 24, 2019). Expands use of a state vaccine database, mandating healthcare workers report vaccination data to an immunization registry.
6. Property Rights as Related to Vegetable Gardens
Property Rights as Related to Vegetable Gardens (Passed 35 to 5 on 3/21/2019). Limits the ability of local governments to prohibit vegetable gardens on residential properties.
