GA Scorecard 2024

The following scorecard lists several key votes in the Georgia Legislature in 2024 and ranks state representatives and senators based on their fidelity to (U.S.) constitutional and limited-government principles.

Senate

1. 2nd Amendment Protection

Good Vote: Yes

HB1018 2nd Amendment Protection (Passed 33 to 19 on 3/26/2024). Prohibits financial institutions from using codes that identify firearms retailers or transactions.

2. Student Loan Forgiveness

Good Vote: No

HB872 Student Loan Forgiveness (Passed 47 to 2 on 3/26/2024). Expands the service cancelable loan program for medical professionals in "underserved" rural areas of Georgia to include dental students.

3. Ranked-Choice Voting Ban

Good Vote: Yes
SB355 Ranked-Choice Voting Ban (Passed 31 to 19 on 1/26/2024). Prohibits the use of ranked-choice voting in all state elections.

4. Georgia Green New Deal

Good Vote: No

HB206 Georgia Green New Deal (Passed 43 to 9 on 3/26/2024). Known as the "Georgia Green New Deal," this bull changes commercial property assessment rules to include conservation and energy improvements, allows authorities to issue bonds and grants, and sets up financing procedures without using other public funds.

5. Immigration Enforcement

Good Vote: Yes

HB1105 Immigration Enforcement (Passed 34 to 19 on 3/21/2024). Outlines documentation for verifying immigration status, requires local law enforcement to cooperate with federal authorities, imposes penalties for non-compliance, and bans "sanctuary" policies.

6. American Library Association

Good Vote: Yes

SB390 American Library Association (Passed 33 to 20 on 2/29/2024). Restricts taxpayer and private funds from being used to support the American Library Association (ALA) and its affiliates.
