The following scorecard lists several key votes in the Hawaii State Legislature in 2021 and 2022 and ranks state assemblymen and senators based on their fidelity to (U.S.) constitutional and limited-government principles.

This is our first state-level Scorecard; the selected votes may not be reflective of legislators’ overall records. Their cumulative scores will change as we add more votes. Please check regularly for updates.

Senate

1. $18 Minimum Wage

Good Vote: No

HB2510 18 Dollar Minimum Wage (Passed 25 to 0 on 5/3/2022). Raised the minimum wage to $18 an hour.

2. Establishing LGBTQIA+ Bureaucracy

Good Vote: No

HB2670 Establishing LGBTQIA+ Bureaucracy (Passed 25 to 0 on 5/3/2022). Will establish the LGBTQIA plus commission to provide programs and outreach to gay and trans individuals.

3. Gun Restrictions

Good Vote: No

HB2075 Gun Restrictions (Passed 22 to 3 on 5/3/2022). Extends the time period in which an approved handgun permit may be used to make an acquisition 10 days to 30 days. It also eliminates the requirement that authorities physically examine firearms upon registration for transfers by licensed dealers.

4. Diversity & Inclusion

Good Vote: No

SB1285 Diversity & Inclusion (Passed 25 to 0 on 3/9/2021). Requires any Hawaii hospital in a county with an area greater than 4,000 square miles establish diversity and inclusion training for all staff.

5. Woke Discrimination

Good Vote: No

SB193 Woke Discrimination (Passed 24 to 0 on 3/5/2021). Requires publicly held domestic corporations to have a gender-diverse board of directors.

6. UN Agenda 2030

Good Vote: No

SB694 UN Agenda 2030 (Passed 25 to 0 on 3/9/2021). Codifies sustainable development goals based on the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals.
