The following scorecard lists several key votes in the Iowa Legislature in 2024 and ranks state representatives and senators based on their fidelity to (U.S.) constitutional and limited-government principles.

Senate

1. Ban Citizen Review Boards in Law Enforcement

Good Vote: Yes

SF2325 Ban Citizen Review Boards in Law Enforcement (Passed 37 to 9 on 3/4/2024). Prohibits cities with civil service commissions from establishing citizen review boards to oversee police conduct.

2. Prohibiting Guaranteed Income Programs

Good Vote: Yes

HF2319 Prohibiting Guaranteed Income Programs (Passed 35 to 13 on 4/16/2024). Bans Iowa counties and cities from creating or maintaining guaranteed income programs.

3. Ending Wokeness

Good Vote: Yes

SF2096 Ending Wokeness (Passed 32 to 15 on 2/20/2024). Repeals a 1987 law mandating gender balance, political diversity, and racial representation in appointments to state boards and commissions, rolling back these "woke" requirements.

4. Disaster Assistance

Good Vote: No

SF2308 Disaster Assistance (Passed 48 to 0 on April 3, 2024). Updates Iowa's disaster response by allowing the Governor to accept federal grants for expenses local or state funds can't cover.

5. Illegal Immigration

Good Vote: Yes

SF2340 Illegal Immigration (Passed 34 to 16 on 3/05/2024). Criminalizes illegal reentry, with penalties based on prior offenses; allows deportation orders; and grants immunity to officials enforcing the law, except for misconduct. It also bans deferred or suspended sentences for these convictions.

6. Religious Freedom Protection

Good Vote: Yes

SF2095 Religious Freedom Protection (Passed 31 to 16 on 2/20/2024). Protects people's religious rights by preventing the government from imposing burdens on their religious practices. If someone's religious freedom is violated, they can seek legal action and potentially receive damages.
