The following scorecard lists several key votes in the Idaho Legislature in 2023 and ranks state representatives and senators based on their fidelity to (U.S.) constitutional and limited-government principles.
Senate
1. Privacy & Gun Rights
H295 Privacy & Gun Rights (Passed 34 to 1 on 3/29/2023). Prohibits credit card companies from assigning a unique credit card code to firearms retailers that sell weapons and ammunition.
2. Education Savings Accounts
S1038 Education Savings Accounts (Rejected 12 to 23 on 2/27/2023). The "Freedom in Education Savings Accounts (FIE)" bill would have created savings accounts for Idaho families' K-12 age children.
3. Student IDs
H124 Student IDs (Passed 28 to 7 on 3/9/2023). Removes student IDs as a valid form of voter identification.
4. Scrap Dealers Act
H142 Scrap Dealers (Passed 29 to 4 on 3/28/2023). Adds catalytic converters to the list for documentation under the Idaho Scrap Dealers Act.
5. Vulnerable Child Protection Act
H71 Vulnerable Child Protection Act (Passed 22 to 12 on 3/27/2023). Amends the existing state ban on female genital mutilation to also include puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and sex reassignment surgeries when administered to children struggling with gender dysphoria.
