The following scorecard lists several key votes in the Kansas Legislature in 2021-2022 and ranks their State Senators and House Representatives based on their fidelity to (U.S.) constitutional and limited-government principles.

This is our first state-level Scorecard; the selected votes may not be reflective of legislators’ overall records. Their cumulative scores will change as we add more votes. Please check regularly for updates.

Senate

1. Prevent Mask & Vaccine Mandates

Good Vote: Yes

SB34 Prevent Mask & Vaccine Mandates (Passed 23 to 17 on 4/28/2022). Prohibits governmental entities and public officials from imposing mask mandates and vaccine mandates and also limits the powers of the governor.

3. COVID-19 Treatments

Good Vote: Yes

HB2280 COVID-19 Treatments (Passed 21 to 16 on 3/23/2022). Allows the prescribing of medications for off-label use to fight COVID-19 infections and grants religious exemptions in schools.

4. Con-Con

Good Vote: Yes

SCR1611 Con Con (Passed 21 to 19 on 5/5/2021). Sends SCR1611 back to committee; it is an application to the Congress of the United States to call a convention of the states.

5. Second Amendment Rights

Good Vote: Yes

HB2058 Second Amendment Rights (Passed 31 to 8 on 5/3/2021). Lowers the minimum age for a concealed carry permit from 21 year old to 18 years old.

6. Fairness in Women's Sports Act

Good Vote: Yes

SB55 Fairness in Women's Sports Act (Passed 26 to 14 on 5/3/2021). Requires that public school female student athletic teams only include members who are biologically female.
