The following scorecard lists several key votes in the Kansas Legislature in 2021-2022 and ranks their State Senators and House Representatives based on their fidelity to (U.S.) constitutional and limited-government principles.

This is our first state-level Scorecard; the selected votes may not be reflective of legislators’ overall records. Their cumulative scores will change as we add more votes. Please check regularly for updates.

House of Representatives

1. Prevent Mask & Vaccine Mandates

Good Vote: Yes

SB34 Prevent Mask & Vaccine Mandates (Passed 64 to 53 on 4/28/2022). Prohibits governmental entities and public officials from imposing mask mandates and vaccine mandates and also limits the powers of the governor.

3. Second Amendment Rights

Good Vote: Yes

HB2058 Second Amendment Rights (Passed 84 to 39 on 5/3/2021). Lowers the minimum age for a concealed carry permit from 21 year old to 18 years old.

4. Business Rights

Good Vote: Yes
SB493 Business Rights (Passed 74 to 48 on 3/23/2022). Prohibits cities and counties from regulating plastic and other containers designed for the consumption, transportation or protection of merchandise, food or beverages.

5. Con-Con

Good Vote: No

HCR5027 Con-Con (Rejected 76 to 43 on 3/9/2022). Applies to the Congress of the United States to call a convention of the states. Needed 2/3 vote to pass.
