The following scorecard lists several key votes in the Massachusetts’s Legislature in 2023-2024 and ranks their house of representatives and senators based on their fidelity to (U.S.) constitutional and limited-government principles.
The selected votes may not be representative of legislators’ overall records. Their cumulative scores will change as we add more votes. Please check regularly for updates.
Senate
1. Invasive Salary Disclosure Mandate
H4109 Invasive Salary Disclosure Mandate (Passed 38 to 1 on 10/19/2023). Requires businesses and employers to report employee salaries to the Secretary of State every year.
2. Gender Identification
S2425 Gender Identification (Passed 39 to 0 on 7/27/2023). Allows individuals to change their gender designation on official documents without medical or court documentation.
3. Firearm Regulations
H4139 Firearm Regulations (Passed 37 to 3 on 2/1/2024). Expands the state's assault weapon ban by prohibiting new purchases of AR-15-style weapons and bans ghost guns.
4. Plastics
S2830 Plastics (Passed 38 to 2 on 6/20/2024). Aims to reduce plastic waste through several measures.
5. Homeless Shelters
H4582 Homeless Shelters (Passed 29 to 9 on 4/25/2024). Continues funding Massachusetts’ emergency family shelter system.
6. State Budget
H4800 State Budget (Passed 40 to 0 on 7/19/2024). Would increase spending about $1.97 billion, or 3.5 percent, over the fiscal 2024 spending plan, authorizing free community college, free rides on regional transit agencies, and legal online Lottery sales.
