The following scorecard lists several key votes in the Nevada Legislature in 2021 and ranks state assemblymen and senators based on their fidelity to (U.S.) constitutional and limited-government principles.
This is our first state-level Scorecard; the selected votes may not be reflective of legislators’ overall records. Their cumulative scores will change as we add more votes. Please check regularly for updates.
Senate
1. “All-Gender” Bathrooms
AB280 "All-Gender" Bathrooms (passed 15 to 6 on 5/31/2021). Prohibits places of public accommodation from reserving a single-stall restroom for a specific gender, while authorizing signage for such a restroom that reads “All-Gender Bathroom” or “All-Accessible Bathroom.”
2. K-12 Public Education Funding Bill
SB458 K-12 Public Education Funding Bill (passed 21 to 0 on 5/26/2021). Provides funding for K-12 public education for the 2021-2023 biennium at a purported estimated average of $10,204 per pupil for FY 21-22 and $10,290 per pupil for FY 22-23.
3. "No-Knock" Warrants
SB50 "No-Knock" Warrants (passed 21 to 0 on 4/20/2021). Sets forth requirements concerning the issuance and execution of “no-knock” search warrants that are identical to those described in state law for “no-knock” arrest warrants.
4. Equal Rights Amendment to the Nevada Constitution
SJR8 Equal Rights Amendment to the Nevada Constitution (passed 18 to 3 on 3/23/2021). Proposes an “equality of rights” amendment to the Nevada Constitution to prohibit discrimination, including on the basis of “sexual orientation, gender identity or expression."
5. Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women
SJR11 Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women (passed 18 to 3 on 4/12/2021). Urges Congress to ratify the UN Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW).
6. Ending Policing-for-Profit
AB186 Ending Policing-for-Profit (passed 15 to 5 on 5/20/2021). Prohibits a law enforcement agency from requiring a peace officer to issue a certain number of traffic citations or make a certain number of arrests.
