The following scorecard lists several key votes in the Ohio Legislature in 2021 and 2022 and ranks state representatives and senators based on their fidelity to (U.S.) constitutional and limited-government principles.
This is our first state-level Scorecard; the selected votes may not be reflective of legislators’ overall records. Their cumulative scores will change as we add more votes. Please check regularly for updates.
Senate
1. Abortion Survival
SB157 Abortion Survival (Passed 25 to 6 on 10/27/2021). Ensures that babies who are born-alive after a failed abortion receive the same medical care as other babies, regardless of the circumstances of their birth.
2. Gun Rights
SB185 Gun Rights (Passed 23 to 7 on 10/20/2021). Prohibits state and local governments from infringing our right to bear arms and the 2nd Amendment of the U.S. Constitution during declared emergencies.
3. Vaccine Mandate
HB244 Vaccine Mandate (Passed 25 to 8 on 6/28/2021). Prohibits public schools and universities from requiring vaccines that were authorized for emergency use by the FDA.
4. Health Order Oversight
SB22 Health Order Oversight (Passed 25 to 8 on 2/17/2021). Gives power to the legislature to rescind health orders issued by the governor or the Ohio Department of Health.
5. Regulation Reduction
SB9 Regulation Reduction (Passed 25 to 8 on 3/10/2022). Reduces regulation restrictions by 30% and eliminates bureaucratic red tape. Prohibits adding a new rule or regulation without also removing two.
6. Concealed Carry
SB215 Constitutional Carry (Passed 23 to 8 on 12/15/2021). Removes the requirement that you must possess a permit when carrying a concealable weapon or firearm.
