The following scorecard lists several key votes in the Pennsylvania Legislature in 2021 and 2022 and ranks state representatives and senators based on their fidelity to (U.S.) constitutional and limited-government principles.
This is our first state-level Scorecard; the selected votes may not be reflective of legislators’ overall records. Their cumulative scores will change as we add more votes. Please check regularly for updates.
Senate
1. Abortion & Voting
SB106 Abortion & Voting (Passed 28 to 22 on 7/8/2022). Includes two constitutional amendments. It states that abortion is not a right and bans all abortions funded by the taxpayers. It also requires that voter ID is needed to vote.
2. Constitutional Carry
SB565 Constitutional Carry (Passed 29 to 21 on 11/9/2021). Eliminates the requirement of a license to carry a firearm in the state.
3. Transgender Sports
HB972 Transgender Sports (Passed 30 to 20 on 6/29/2022). Provides for sport activities in public school be expressly designated male, female or coed.
4. Election Integrity
SB982 Election Integrity (Passed 46 to 4 on 7/7/2022). Prohibits the use of non-public or outside money for the administration and execution of an election, making sure funding only comes from the taxpayers. This bans “Zuckerbucks” from elections in the state.
5. COVID-19 Vaccine Status
SB618 COVID-19 Vaccine Status (Passed 29 to 21 on 6/24/2021). Prohibits government entities and state funded colleges from requiring proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
6. Poll Watchers
SB573 Poll Watchers (Passed 30 to 19 on 6/6/2022). Allows all registered voters of Pennsylvania to be eligible to be a poll watcher in any precinct in the state of Pennsylvania.
