TX Scorecard 2019

The following scorecard lists several key votes in the Texas Legislature in 2019 and ranks their State Senators and House Representatives based on their fidelity to (U.S.) constitutional and limited-government principles.

House of Representatives

1. Child Contraceptive Providers

Good Vote: No

HB800 Child Contraceptive Providers (Passed 81 to 64 on 4/16/2019). Would allow children under the age of 18 to be given contraceptives using taxpayer funding.

2. Music Venue Subsidization

Good Vote: No

HB2806 Music Venue Subsidization (Passed 95 to 43 on 4/24/2019). Would use taxpayer money to subsidize certain music venues and performances.

3. Campus Free Speech

Good Vote: Yes

HB2100 Campus Free Speech (Passed 85 to 58 on 4/30/2019). Would ensure that college campuses in Texas cannot take actions that restrict free speech on their premises.

4. Competitive Projects Bid

Good Vote: Yes

HB985 Competitive Projects Bid (Passed 93 to 54 on 4/30/2019). Would allow greater competition in the bids for public projects by opening them to nonunion groups.

5. Migrant Child Misrepresentation

Good Vote: Yes

HB888 Migrant Child Misrepresentation (Passed 100 to 43 on 5/23/2019). Would ensure that anyone who misrepresents a child through a port of entry can be charged and prosecuted in any Texas county.

6. Healthcare Overreach

Good Vote: No

HB170 Healthcare Overreach (Passed 128 to 13 on 5/24/2019). Would add additional healthcare coverage and cost by adding mammography to certain health plans.
